so, as things stand right now, Bernie won the popular vote, but Buttigieg won the most delegates.

I'm watching the live coverage on CNN (only american channel I have available on my TV), and they're literally drooling all over Pete and implicitly calling Biden to just give up and allow Buttigieg to consolidate the "moderate lane" . Bernie did pretty much as well as Buttigieg, but of course CNN is keeping almost entirely silent about him.

another thing: is it just me, or have we been at 62% reporting for over an hour now? dont tell me their reporting has once again gotten stuck.

It's all about expectations. Notice how they aren't really talking much about Warren either.

Buttigieg would be way easier to beat in the rest of the country than Biden.

but bernie got the most votes, is a very close second in the delegate count, and he did meet expectations. sure, buttigieg gets more coverage than him because he exceeded his expectations more than bernie did, but that doesnt justify the huge disparity in the coverage they're giving these two.

So, I think Bernie and Biden benefit from this fiasco since they are the two front runners. It definitely seems like Biden underperformed based on his speech ("we'll get our share of delegates") but he can safely go on to NH. Bernie, on the other hand, was the assumed winner according to previous polling and he's doing well in NH already. Klobuchar doesn't need to drop out now but I get the feeling she overperformed. It was smart for her to be the FIRST speaker to maximize airtime. I think Pete is probably the biggest loser out of everyone if he overperformed. He hasn't given a speech yet but even if he wins, it won't really matter.

i don't like mayor pete. like at all. he's a spineless little weasel who'd sell his soul for this presidency. but in terms of head to head against trump, i see him as the most competitive, alongside bernie.

- biden would get steamrolled by trump. he has a terrible and very attackable political record, is a gaffe factory, and not particularly quick-witted. i'm not saying he's as dumb or as personally flawed as trump, but he could easily be portrayed as such, and most certainly would be at a massive disadvantage on stage.
- warren would probably also struggle. especially with the expected personal attacks. not as much as biden, as she's smarter and has better policies, on which she's able to focus if she so chooses, but she would (mostly unfairly ofc) probably still be perceived as weak.

- the one person i would have LOVED to see in debates against trump is kamala harris. not for her policies ofc, she's terrible, but she's rhetorically brilliant and would have wiped the floor with him - and it would have triggered him into oblivion. a woman of colour putting him in his place in front of the whole world - he might very well have imploded on live tv (if he ever agreed to a televised debate in the first place - which is a very real possibility he won't, if bernie or butt win the nomination).

buttigieg is undeniably smart. he's good at messaging, an excellent speaker, and he's quick-witted enough to exploit trump's own rhetorical and intellectual shortcomings. also, he doesn't have much of a record, politically or personally, to attack - so it will be difficult to make something really stick.

that said, to curb the butt hype a little:

Easily. Would be like a 40+ state victory map. Reagan proportions.
