Everyone in every state contributes to the GDP, so that doesn't count for the illegals Because legals would contribute just as much, actually legals would contribute a bit more.
As far as their contribution to the State GDP, again, that doesn't count, except for California.
As for California taxes, that's all well and good, but the US is a "system" of states and needs to work as a system. While the numbers concerning illegals may be good for California, they are not, for the US.
Every dollar they don't pay the Fed, is a dollar that comes out of everyone else's pocket in the other states.
Every time an Interstate roadway needs repaired, a natural disaster, needs paid for...etc., there's less money than there should be to pay for it with.
As you mentioned, they also cost the US in services, law enforcement costs etc. Again we are talking Federal services and Federal law enforcement. This comes out of every legal person's pocket in the US.
This isn't just about California. Texas, Florida and New York are also the main offenders.
The only reason, we are bringing up California, is that so far California is the ONLY state so far, that has passed laws (3 of them in the article in the OP) that help hide the identities of these illegal aliens from the Fed.
This is illegal in that it goes against decisions that the Fed has made concerning illegal aliens. In this situation the Fed, (via the US Constitution and the 10th Amendment) is legally allowed to deport these illegal aliens.
The way the US works, or attempts to, is to LEGALLY require that every person in the US pays a certain amount in dollars to the Federal govt. so that the Federal govt. can do the things that the legal residents of the US ask of it.
When there are 12 million people in the US not paying the Fed govt. this money, then all the legal residents of the US, either have to pay more, or have to suffer in various ways. Ways like crappy roads, not enough money for natural disasters, welfare, not enough money for the poor to get medical care...etc.
States don't get to "just decide" how they will contribute to the good of the US, they are required, by law to pay Federal taxes. If all the illegal aliens were deported tomorrow, within a year or two, all those "jobs that no one wants" would be filled by legal residents of the US that have no other choice.
Sure person A may want a nice cushy desk job with A/C, but there are millions of people who would just as happily work outdoors in an an agricultural capacity.
Hell I worked outdoors in California for 20 years, in construction, by choice.
Also, the adage that these are jobs no one wants, is just untrue. These days "farming" for example is not the "slave labor in the fields" that it was in the 1800's. Most of this work is done by machine, these days.
Construction is another field where a lot of unskilled labor is still used, but it doesn't have to be. It's very easy to replace 10 Mexicans with a fork lift, for example.
I realize that anyone can call up an article that explains that illegal aliens are a necessary thing. But it's just not true.
I can also call up articles, proving the Earth is flat, and that there used to be giant ancient aliens on Earth.
This isn't just about California, except where it concerns a few illegal laws that were passed and California's decision to just ignore the Federal govt's decisions on this matter.
