No one is claiming the tariffs cause a net gain in steel jobs.
Trump is claiming that he wants to start up the steel industry in the US again. I actually posted where he said it.

Two separate but slightly related subjects. Do try to keep up. :)

the US steel industry isn't in decline for production.

we make as much steel today as we did in 1983.

Yeah, and by about 1983, they had pretty much shut down the steel industry in the US. So YES they do make about as much today as they did in 1983. :/

"they shut down" and who is they?

would that be the towns not all that happy about creeks that are the color red, or the countries that industrialized in the peaceful era Post ww2 that were more than happy to have red creeks?

any idea how much more steel Canada and Mexico will by from China as a result of this?

45,000 jobs losses projected, but hey, we're saving steel!

I saw another article this morning saying Goldman Sachs projects drops in profit at Ford and GM of a billion dollars each.

Probably why Trump exempted them. Do you HAVE any point or do you just feel like arguing?

Projections these days are just politics. Let's see what "actually" happens, shall we.

The American car industry was possible, because of the US Steel industry.

You're actually nearly the only one for the steel tariff for all countries. Why do you feel like arguing ?

I'm not from any country but the US. So I worry about what's good for the US.

yes, that these tariffs will cost the areas more jobs than they create. additionally that many of the workers in that industry work in related industries where jobs will be lost. so it's not that we're saving "steel workers", the industry isnt that specialized at the bottom of the totem pole. we're "saving the steel industry" at the cost of its own unskilled or low skilled labor.

you statement that these towns would love jobs back will lose jobs, paying 10$ for a 5$ bill is stupid.

Which jobs will we lose, if the US revives the steel industry?

Bankers?
Computer folks?
Teachers?
Doctors?
Farmers?

Don't think so. :/
