As Aristotle said, tolerance and apathy are the last virtues of a dying society.

Pretty sure Aristotle never said this.

Aristotle did indeed utter the aforementioned quote.

Although I don't really approve of the groups that 'glorify' obesity, I also don't think that fat-shaming should ever be acceptable in our society. Obesity should be seen as it is: a medical disorder that requires treatment & encouragement from friends and families to recover from. A lot of the problem I see is actually our busy lifestyle... it's always hurry hurry hurry to the next destination and for many that is the partially the cause of eating unhealthy or forming unhealthy habits. If you don't have the time to prepare or cook a healthy meal, what is your alternative? What about taking the time to exercise or attend to your health (preventative medical appts, check-ups, etc.)?

Do you know that companies who make processed foods add sugar/salt/fat to their ingredients just to increase the appeal of their product? Companies should be held just as accountable for promoting unhealthy diets as individuals are for becoming addicted to such crap. Is it any different than tobacco companies making a profit from nicotine-containing substances? We make laws against advertising by tobacco companies and strict labeling requirements on tobacco products warning of the dangers... why aren't we doing the same for unhealthy processed food?

Fat people are disgusting. There is nothing beautiful about it. There is nothing healthy about it. It shouldn't be sugar coated.

That said.

They can feel free to eat themselves into as big of an early coffin that they want. Hope that case of doughnuts was worth leaving your children without a parent.

Tobacco products are just a bad habit, period. The alternative to them is not using. With food, you have a choice, you don't have to eat the sugary processed shit, you choose to. You are never limited to just eating horrible shit everyday of the week, even if you like to indulge in some sugary shitty food, you can balance your diet with other foods and exercise. No reason to hold companies accountable for fat people wanting to eat ice cream for dinner. I also don't believe tobacco should be banned from advertising, but whatever.

The fat apologist movement is pushing the term "food desert" to claim that fatties, particularly the poor black ones, aren't responsible for their own obesity because they don't have access or wherewithal to eat healthy

who puts in more effort, the government to ensure WIC doesn't buy sugary foods, or the people buying sugary foods with it?

...it's not a great leap to understand that in areas devoid of decent grocery stores the residents have to rely on the overly processed and fatty fast foods that are the normal fare for those establishments . That it has a serious negative impact on their weight and overall health stands to reason .
