Extreme examples aren't what i'm talking about. I'm talking about the most common demographics on this site and among my peers. Healthy 20-28 year olds with the ability to live at home if they need to. Outside from that, you can do the rest yourself. Getting a car is easy as Coheed said in the last post. It's $2000 for a 2002 Toyota Camry that'll last you a couple years. Finance it and it's $80 a month tops even with crappy credit. Even if you can't live at home, go rent a room for a few hundred dollars a month. You can make that in 6 or 7 shifts at McDonalds.

For the average person, life is easy if you can drive yourself to success. The whole "not everyone is as ambitious, not everyone can succeed, not everyone can...." bullshit. that's just lazy.

In the end, even with successful individuals it comes down to chance. "Hard work" can only take you so far. It's pure chance that you didn't get unlucky enough not to achieve success.

While there is certainly chance involved with success, for the most part hard workers will out perform lazy workers.

When I managed retail stores our entry level jobs started at a few bucks over minimum, but with progress and good attitude I'd be good with raises after 6 months and a year The thing was I was looking for a person who if we spent the time training, and working with, living with and correcting the mistakes. I wanted a long term employee. I awarded loyalty.

But when hiring if there was a 19-25'ish yo kid applying I'd really have to be scraping the bottom of the barrel before I'd hire him, because I knew that the job I was offering was a stepping stone, not a place to work at. I'd look for a married guy first and foremost someone with mouths to feed is usually the one that makes it to work on time.
Now remember the type of work I'm talking about this is not skilled labor, it's delivering and loading lumber. and helping customers in the sales yard.

I'm very late to this topic but I just want to throw my 2 cents in that no one can live off 500 dollars a month.

That's true from a probabilistic standpoint. What i'm saying though is that it's still pure chance to have that kind of personality development with all the environmental and genetic factors taken into account. Kids of successful people tend to be successful not only because of old money, but also because of the values and thought systems instilled in them. You don't choose any of that, you don't choose your system of decision-making.

Getting a job is easy, people are just stupid and lazy and refuse to work at a fast food restaurant. My girlfriend had no job experience whatsoever, so she got a job as a server at Buffalo Wild Wings. Her W2 was $41,000. Why can't anyone else do that?

Thoughts?
