Neither planes nor choppers would particularly help in this particular scenario. The winds are too high. Further, you don't really want to scoop a bunch of water out of the ocean to fight a fire. You end up salting the earth. Not a great move.

Again, it's almost entirely water management, or lack thereof, that caused the problem. Not the fire conditions, that was uncleared brush and high winds more than anything. No, not having water reserves to deal with the fires is what it is. They were more concerned about saving a specific type of newt or some shit than replenishing their own water supplies in last year's rain, and drained all the fresh water into the ocean. They gave away their very ability to not burn. Horrible shit. Feel bad for Californians who see the problem and find themselves incapable of doing anything to resolve it.

i dont think much will change tbh, Newsom sucks ass but we've had major fires as long as Ive been an adult so its not just his problem/failure - Arnold and Jerry Brown were just as shitty at managing things

This is a fact. However, I would point out that the SoCal Metro didn't used to burn. It was mostly forests in Northern California that burned, as a result of cutting back on logging, combined with no longer having the logging companies clearing out the underbrush so they CAN cut.

I will comfortably and confidently say the situation is worse than it has ever been in our lifetimes. The same is true of Oregon and Washington as well. It's not just California.

same for Canada, they had awful mega fires in the last few years

California has the 4th or 5th largest economy in the world, brother, we are the ones who every other state mooches off of for federal aid. be careful what you wish for!!!

Canada actually surprises me a fair bit. It doesn't NEED to burn. Canada has insane fresh water resources to fight wildfires, and massive swathes of unpopulated land to create burn lines and fire blocks in (at least in the west).

But I don't really track Canada wildfires unless they push south.

They have essentially removed a function of Natural Selection from these forests, and as a result these forests are overgrown with fuel so when it will burn it will burn really hot.
