Definitely a Florida man. I'm from Alberta, the opposite of Quebec. Only Florida man could be so wrong.

Some saber rattlin'

Nigerien military junta calls the French ambassador to a meeting with the Nigerian foreign minister, France refuses and says the junta lacks authority to make demands of the ambassador and doesn't recognize them as the legitimate government. And thus the Nigerian government has expelled the ambassador. There's rumors of a similar effort to expel the US diplomatic staff in the country, but they haven't made an official demand yet.

“France has taken note of the putschists’ request,” the French Foreign Ministry told AFP late Friday.

“The putschists do not have the authority to make this demand, the ambassador’s approval comes only from the legitimate, elected Nigerien authorities” the ministry said.

I mean, the same legitimate, elected authorities who imprisoned their political rivals and held fake elections.
As a microcosm for the east/west divide, we're again seeing the theme of hypocritical imperialists laying sole claim to international legitimacy, running impotently against naked power grabs and military might.

Saga continues

>You have to leave our country
> No, your power is not legitimate we're not leaving
>'Cuts off electricity and water to the embassy'

Imagine being the staff there and being like are we about to get Benghazi'd? In reality they'll just be sweated out. Lmao.

So does this become an inverse siege, like a sit-in or something? 'You're free to leave at any time with no consequences'? Most such scenarios involve the threat of immediate arrest when you leave, ala the julian assange embassy.
Then we wind up with the double standoff where it becomes the military holding back the citizens protesting outside the embassy who want to storm it. So simultaneously demanding the French leave while being the only thing protecting them

Gabon: Hold my beer

Quote
LIBREVILLE, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Military officers in oil-producing Gabon said they had seized power on Wednesday, placing President Ali Bongo under house arrest and naming a new leader after the Central African state's election body announced Bongo had won a third term.

Saying they represented the armed forces, the officers declared on television that the election results were cancelled, borders closed and state institutions dissolved, after a tense vote that was set to extend the Bongo family's more than half century in power.

Within hours, generals met to discuss who would lead the transition and agreed by unanimous vote to appoint General Brice Oligui Nguema, former head of the presidential guard, according to another televised address.

France is now withdrawing its ambassador, diplomatic staff and 1500 man military presence from Niger, and Niger has reopened its airspace to all flights except Air France, with french flights forbidden

Looks like a full retreat with no war in the end, ECOWAS had no appetite and NATO had no will. Thats the whole Sahel wrapped into the Russian sphere of influence
