a good thing imo, taking the punishment off users and stacking it on the cooks and bag boys is a good change.

Yes, that second part. The manufacture and distribution of illegal drugs is still criminalized. It's only the possession of such drugs that is "decriminalized". The text of the measure:

Code
A "yes" vote supports making personal non-commercial possession of a controlled substance no more than a Class E violation (max fine of $100 fine) and establishing a drug addiction treatment and recovery program funded in part by the state's marijuana tax revenue and state prison savings.

Possessions of small amounts of these things will get you referral to treatment and if you do not go to treatment you will be punished. That is my understanding of their law. They are not saying that up to 2 g of methamphetamine is legal to have. I'm not saying that is your claim either before you get upset and throw a tantrum.

I agree, though it'd be great if drugs were simply legalized entirely. Easier to regulate to make the manufacture, distribution, and use "safer", can slap a sin tax on them, and takes all the power out of the hands of cartels, terrorist organizations, and gangs who currently profit the most off "the drug war".

My understanding of it is users will lose their shit and have to pay the $100 fine, unless they opt to go to treatment, in which case they may simply lose their shit.

I'm unsure exactly what the treatment will consist of, but it sounds like a rehab thing, complete with a "health exam" verifying you're clean before you can "pass".

Again, just a guess. In a general sense, I favor the bill.

agreed. i have bought weed in illinois, where the taxes have been called insanity by people online. i was surprised how mild the taxes were, obviously its way worse than dealer price but still, 70$ out the door for a 1/4 of shake, ntb.

many of the sin taxes people cry about arent that bad, and many directly fund schools like in Colorado.

Sara Gideon has conceded the ME Senate race. GOP pretty much a lock to retain control of the Senate.
