that does help explain the low birth rate

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/04/03/japanese-couple-apologise-ignoring-work-pregnancy-timetable/

The woman was working at a private childcare centre in Aichi prefecture, north Japan, when she found out she was pregnant.

However, the timing reportedly clashed with “shifts” drawn by the childcare centre director, which listed when female staff were allowed to marry and have children.

The plight of the woman, who has not been identified, highlights the unsettling practice of some Japanese companies dictating when female staff are allowed to marry and have children, depending on their level of seniority.

Her experiences came to light after her husband, aged 28, wrote a letter outlining their plight to Mainich Shimbun, one of Japan’s leading newspapers.

..

Many commentators were critical of the nursery, claiming such rules are a violation of human rights - although some were sympathetic to the challenges faced by childcare centres due to widespread staffing shortages.

Japanese women have long had a tough time in the workplace, due to widespread gender discrimination, with the nation slipping to 114th place out of 144 countries in last year’s World Economic Forum global gender equality rankings.

Maternity harassment – known as “matahara” in Japan – is also a major issue, with a 2015 government survey revealing that half of the nation’s working women suffered some kind of harassment after becoming pregnant, with one in five dismissed from their job.

if women want equal pay the largest hurdle is for their births to be scheduled.

Sometimes women's rights and equality aren't congruent, this is one startling case. Frankly given how mechanical japanese logic seems to be i'm not surprised by the practice.

I wonder what stats on maternity harassment and termination from jobs would be in the US. It would be a tough thing to apples to apples compare given how "harassment" would be defined differently and workers cant be directly dismissed for pregnancy in the US in most cases. But im sure plenty of women are told they wont have a job to come back to or are "downsized" out of the job.

Speaking of pregnancies, behold : https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2018/04/03/a-woman-said-an-ancestry-com-dna-test-told-her-she-had-a-different-father-her-parents-fertility-doctor/?utm_term=.bd2789d23c58

When Kelli Rowlette received the results from a DNA sample she had sent to a popular genealogy website, she assumed there had been a mistake.

The test showed that her DNA matched a sample from a doctor more than 500 miles away — and, though she had never heard of him, Ancestry.com predicted a parent-child relationship between the two.

Quote
She did not know her mother had undergone artificial insemination, nor did she — or her parents — know her mother’s fertility doctor had allegedly used his own sperm to get her pregnant with Rowlette.

The couple requested a donor who was in college and taller than 6 feet with brown hair and blue eyes — and Mortimer told them that he had found a donor matching their description, the suit says.

But the lawsuit claims that when Mortimer performed the procedure in the summer of 1980, he used his own sperm. He did not match the couple’s specifications.

Quote
Ashby became pregnant and, in May 1981, Mortimer delivered his own child — never divulging the secret, according to the lawsuit.

Mortimer remained Ashby’s doctor for several years until the she and her husband moved to Washington state.

“Dr. Mortimer cried when Ms. Ashby informed him they were moving,” according to the lawsuit. “Dr. Mortimer knew Kelli Rowlette was his biological daughter but did not disclose this to Ms. Ashby or Mr. Fowler.”

The family is suing Mortimer and Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates of Idaho Falls, accusing them of medical negligence, fraud, battery, negligent infliction of emotional distress and breach of contract.

The absolute madman! Article mentions he's retired, so he's not in any danger of having his license suspended. What a story though, I can't help but imagine that it wouldn't be the only male OB/GYN to have pulled off that stunt.

jesus, thanks for the share. thats a really really fucking weird thing to do.

the fantasy behind rape makes sense, as psychotic as it is, but the "go and raise my children" mentality seems fucking off to me.

It's pretty much "stealthing" with a lot more stealth to it. Knowing that a (married) woman is carrying your child must've felt exhilarating to him. I imagine every woman/family he's done the operation on is going to be having some doubts, what a shitshow.

The reason why I thought he shouldn't be the only one who's done this type of thing is because of an article I read that was an update to a 2013 story about a surgeon getting caught signing two organs with his initials before completing the operation : https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/dec/13/surgeon-admits-marking-his-initials-on-the-livers-of-two-patients

The motives and reasons as to why the two men did something like that are not the same but there's a common thread in that both did it because they thought they'd get away with it. A certain thrill to do something with no one being the wiser.

ya that secret power dynamic. not only did the "own" someone, but they add to it by being the only one who knows about it. i can see the appeal but it just seems so scummy i cant even picture myself doing it.

I found out I have an older sister this way. My brother did one of these genetic things and in the group that was a bunch of people from my family and then some woman I've never seen before. I don't know whether my dad knew about her or not.

I can't picture anyone, including a Judge, believing anything Ancestry.com says.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/parkland-students-protest-clear-backpacks-193326409.html

this is why you dont listen to children, especially ones that are the victim of a tragic event, on policy. back pack checks and metal detectors have prevented black kids who own illegal guns in this age group at astronomically higher levels, with much more apparent shooting motives given gang activity, from any mass shooting.

The real white privilege is how you deal with minor inconveniences to civil liberties. These kids are a national embarrassment.

you want to ask what gun control measures are being used with this, fine. thats valid. you want to act like you're a prisoner when if convicted of the same crime as a kid who has had this at his school for years you'd get probation while he gets 3-5 years. fuck off. spoiled fucking kids deserve to be a flash in the news cycle and banished to the echo chambers of the internet. the only sad part is this prolongs their time in the spotlight when it should cause the lightswitch to flip.

I really wonder what the media's plan is now. Their viewership isn't increasing and they have no plans to change their message.
