Trump only got into the White House in the first place because of the very real anger and desperation of millions of Americans. My hope when he got elected in 2016 was that American elites would hear the warning shot and give appropriate concessions, apply appropriate course corrections to the system. Instead, they stubbornly refused to learn their lesson and instead doubled down on all the bullshit that fueled Trumpism. Accordingly, they were headed for a well-deserved rude awakening in the form of another Trump term until the once-in-a-century pandemic bailed them out.
Now, I honestly have very little hope left for America. Now, it feels to me as if the train will inevitably go off the rails big time, and the only open question left is 1) when and 2) to which side, the left or the right. The BLM riots over the summer and the Capitol storming were only the first, tepid shaking of the machine on its rails. There is far more and far worse to come.
