he represents the besieged last bastion of the intellectual moderate left, he's usually right about everything
I'm kind of sad they didn't vote Keith Ellison in order to totally self destruct the party and forcibly expel dershy

That's so out of character. I wonder who's idea it was? John Kelly? He did say he's the adult in the room.

It was Nancy Pelosi's idea. Trump got suckered because he isn't in reality very astute at making deals. All of the different policy angles go over Trump's head and he just wants to "win" on something, and receive positive press coverage, AND punish Ryan/McConnell for not "stooging" to his liking.

I don't think that's his plan...I think he just wants to be "The Negotiator", much like Bush wanted to be "The Decider".

It probably wasn't (insofar as the Trump administration doesn't have "plans," or a coherent foreign policy strategy or even ideology), but it's sure as hell what happens if Trump needlessly cancels that treaty.

What if this was the democrats master plan. Lifelong democrat Donald Trump runs as a Republican and then masquerades as a lunatic and then goes centrist democrat being exactly what Hillary would be.

Democrats playing 3 dimensional chest?

I think it's more likely that Pelosi realized they have more control over the media Trump cares about and is using positive coverage to manipulate him.

Trump cares about others opinion of him more than ANYTHING, so Pelosi waving a carrot of CNN and MSNBC is a powerful.

maybe, but that plan will fail as soon as trump receives serious backlash from conservative media.
putting political strategizing aside to get the harvey relief through congress quickly and without other issues being tied into it, is a move that might have irritated conservative media, but they for sure werent gonna turn on trump for that, and they didnt.

yes, trump siding with pelosi and schumer here is a strategic victory for democrats because they have now set up a big showdown on various issues in december where they will have the leverage to push at least one or two issues from their agenda through. but it was also a big tactical win for trump. last but not least because with this move, he showed mcconnell and ryan that he is able and willing to turn on them if they dont deliver and stand in his way. basically, they screwed him by their failure in the obamacare repeal efforts, and with this move, trump has returned the favor.

gotta admit though, I dont know yet whether this is a strategic victory or a strategic blunder by trump.
