1. ISIS were a bunch of savages driving through the desert in pickups with a machine gun attached to the bed while Ukraine is up against hundreds of thousands of troops from one of the strongest militaries in the world, with tanks and aircrafts and cruise missiles and all that.

2. the main gripe of Western right-wing politicians was never that the Syrians/Libyans/etc. didn't 1v100 the islamists in rambo-fashion, it's that these people were in safety in neighboring countries and had no business travelling thousands of miles to Europe, just so that they can sign up for welfare in a place whose culture many of them reject and despise.

3. Ukraine's fate was sealed the moment NATO (rightfully) declared that they won't defend Ukraine's territory with NATO troops. Whether the Ukrainians try to fight the Russian army with their own military or not will not affect the outcome of this conflict, only its death toll. Now, a guerilla warfare afterwards may be another story, but trying to fight the Russian troops head-on is indeed pointless and foolish. This does not mean that Ukraine, or the EU or NATO, must accept Ukraine as a territory of Russia, just that they must accept the realities on the ground, at least for the time being.


Russia deserves to be sanctioned to hell and being ostracized from the international community until they change their mind. Putin chose to turn himself into a pariah once and for all and took his country with him.

Its clear from the videos so far that Russia isn't bombing population centers and aren't destroying critical infrastructure that could create a humanitarian crisis. People in the major cities are livestreaming and tweeting away, they have power, water, food, etc. We see missiles destroy targets, presumably air defense sites, we see huge movements of troops and armor. But now we're seeing masses of the Chechens being unleashed on Mariupol and marching toward Kiev. And that is the prime conditions for starting a slaughter.
