from my own experience, shaming has only led fat people to become more recluse; which isn't exactly a healthy thing.

Just keep encouraging those who are severely overweight around you, to pursue their own ideal body weight ratio. Rather than shaming, I usually will try to tell people what worked for me in fat loss (obviously reducing calories is a huge part of this) and promoting a more active lifestyle relative to the one they are in.

When it comes to body shaming it's not just fat people who are affected. Even if you shame people for being fat it brings out other insecurities in people (height, body shape, even skin color in some cases) because the bottom line is ridiculing them. FWIW I didn't give a shit about body image when I was overweight and only lost it because I personally would feel sick eating too much (not to mention the taste of my diet also started to sicken me to a degree).

Probably because he was eating a lot less because he didn't want to carry it.

He's still got a long way to go but great start. It gets harder the more you lose.

Metabolism too. I can do the same thing as ten years ago and drastically different things happen.

the glorification of obesity is a fascinating subject ^_^

if tv shows like the one on the first page didn't exist along with the fat acceptance culture we now live in this thread wouldn't exist

Nobody glorifies it. There is a movement to put real human women in commercials and stuff but that is it.

this is what happens when people feel no shame over obesity

To me it seems like you've been going around the Internet deliberately looking for fringe groups like this just so that you could get worked up about something that you deem important.

I mean, look at this post over here.

Wtf is it if not wank material that you posted for yourself?

with record breaking levels of obesity i'm not so sure you can say this is a fringe group - they exert quite a bit of influence on the obese members of the population steering them away from sound medical advice by labeling it fat shaming

funny enough, most of the people in my family are too skinny for their own good and i insist that they hit the gym and eat better or they're gonna have health problems later :D

with regards to encouraging obese folks to lose weight if they're not family i have no business addressing their weight directly though i do have no problems talking about what i'm currently doing and if it rubs off on em then that's great

I do not see what breaking levels of obesity have to do with a fringe group being a fringe group. As far as I know, they mostly seem to exist only in your imagination or as .jpg-pictures from who knows where.

To quote you from your previous post - "with the fat acceptance culture we now live in". I'd imagine that they'd have already gained support if it's a fat acceptance culture that we're living in.

Regardless, what's at the root of this obsession of yours?

So? Reality television is just modern day freakshows, without the tents and much less creativity. Nobody aspires to be Honey Boo Boo. I think you are misunderstanding what is happening with shows like this, or Repo Wars, or Housewifes of Atlanta or whatever.

I'm glad I don't have cable.

I think Americans are sick of being a fat joke.

after i made a switch to a healthier life style i started noticing these people who knock working out and healthy eating while praising lazy gluttonous lifestyles

i find everything they stand for to be repulsive, that's pretty much it

A reality show about one woman with PCOS exists for people to gawk at her like a freak show, it's pretty obvious that fat acceptance has gone too far

Here is a film about a world where Duffman is supreme dictator:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifteen_Million_Merits

Quote
A satire on entertainment shows and our insatiable thirst for distraction set in a sarcastic version of a future reality. In this world, everyone must cycle on exercise bikes in order to power their surroundings and generate currency called Merits. Everyday activities are constantly interrupted by advertisements that cannot be skipped or ignored without financial penalty. Obese people are considered to be second-class citizens, and either work as cleaners around the machines (where they receive verbal abuse) or are humiliated on game shows.
