Everything he described was the result of colonialism and capitalism.
See the "compliant to Western businesses"
so you say that capitalism is to blame for wars waged during the cold war era, but not communism?! imho both are to blame equally.
also, if colonialism and wars were to blame
exclusively for the misery of third world countries, why isnt ethiopia better off? the country only spent a minimal amount of years under foreign rule, there were no foreign wars on its territory, and it was an afterthought for global corporations for the longest time. nonetheless, the economic situation in ethiopia was not and still is not significantly better than in other african countries.
dont get me wrong, I certainly wont deny that wars and social instability are very harmful for economic and social development, and I also certainly wont deny that colonialism and the effects of capitalism sometimes cause these things - but I strongly refute the claim that these things are the
sole or even the
major factor behind certain countries' lacking development/poverty/misery.
countries like singapore, south korea, taiwan, vietnam or chile prove that countries can recover quite rapidly from the adverse effects of capitalism and "western business interests" - but only if they begin to practice good governance and have manageable demographics!
