I don't think the average Westerner would know enough about history or Japan to be a good source of information on the topic. Also it's really not as simple a question as 'are the Japanese racists?' They have a deeply engrained xenophobic culture which dates back to the times of Sakoku and an imperialistic attitude to other Asian races. Even a Westerner with a visa and full time job in Japan would find it incredibly difficult to find someone willing to sell their house to them.

Also you're deviating from the point by highlighting their immigration policy - this isn't what I initially called you up on. But no I don't think their policy is racist.



If you made the point that the BBC may have a left wing institutional bias in the selection of news they don't report, I'd get it. But what you've just said is a load of tripe.

Precisely but the world perception is no where near as critical compared to the US or EU. Japan immigration policy is pretty draconian compared to western standards, even though they are a modern & developed nation but they get no flack from the media. Meanwhile here in the US, trying to restrict immigration temporarily from active conflict zones and media & everyone else is foaming at the mouth 24/7.

Ive been to Japan and everyone was nice as hell to me. Even the homeless people were nice. I gave a guy a few yen in change to buy some food and he came running up 3-5 mins later to give me some of what he had bought with the money.

The only experience I had that was off at all was a girl who made an ugly face when she noticed my tattoos.

I would live in Japan in a heartbeat if I was not creating roots in CO.

and guess what, nobody really cares because the japanese do their own thing in their own country and dont cause trouble elsewhere. they are not coming to foreign countries to live off of those countries' welfare, they dont go bombing shit, they dont drive trucks into crowds, they have no desire to subdue "infidels" or non-japanese people, when living abroad they dont demand the locals to change their way of life to accomadate to the japanese culture, they dont teach hatred in their shinto temples, and so on.

I've read, some days ago, in an analysis of crime rates in Germany that the japanese living there are 5 times less likely to commit felonies than german citizens. (the negative record is set by algerians, whose felony rate is 28 times higher than that of actual germans...)
