Obama did a lot of reasonable things, but also a lot of stupid things. In particular, he was pushing the country into a direction half the population rejected. His rhetoric was uniting, but his actions were not.

It has been said many times, but it's still true: part of the reason trump won is a backlash to obamas policies by conservative and/or rural voters. Clinton was seen as the preserver of the status quo, or as "status quo on steroids". voters rejected this status quo, and it was Obama's status quo.

Obama was liberal in talk, not in actions. That's why he won so much the first time around.

The country is actually deeply progressive. They love progressive policies. When you go policy-by-policy and explain what it means they are overwhelmingly popular. It's only when you get the Republican framing and lies that they become unpopular.

For example, Obamacare is MASSIVELY popular in Kentucky when you don't call it "Obamacare" and explain what each policy means. Mitch McConnel's state fucking loves Obamacare.

Unfortunately, we don't have a real liberal party in action.

It's a mixed reason, ppl also wanted change from economic disparity caused by the crisis. The economy would have resolved that if elections were one year later. (and the lack of good candidates.. imo the main reason Trump won)

of course giving out "free" stuff is popular. it turns unpopular once the people realize that it in fact is not "free". the political left always start out with the "moral high-ground advantage" since they propagate stuff like helping the weak and poor, fighting inequality and discrimination, providing universal healthcare and so on. of course those things will be popular when looked at superficially. the political right then has to show that the stuff the political left is proposing is actually not eliminating discrimination and injustice, it just shifts those issues from one demographic to another.

yeah, by american standards, I'm a liberal or at least a moderate on economic and social issues, just not on cultural issues and immigration.

see also this article:

also nice to see an american/foreign source confirm the huge left-swing of Angela Merkel's CDU, and they actually moved significantly more to the left since 2013...
it's also nice to see a confirmation of the feeling I had over the years that the Democrats have turned to the left quite hard under Obama...

that moment when even foreigners realise that fact from thousands of miles away, still cant believe how the political landscape got merkel'd
i hope you didnt watch the "debate" tonight xd
also note the social democrats, exactly what we are seeing here, traditional worker party became a bunch of left wing utopia morons
good old days, when being anti mass migration and protecting the local market from cheap foreign labour influx made you a social democrat instead of a nazi

Obama bombed, killed and destabilized the middle east far more than democrats give him ostracization for. He has a charming personality so he gets a pass on the indiscriminate murder of thousands.

Got any proof that conservatives are better with money?
In my country at least the left do throw away a lot of money on social benefits, however the conservatives throw away even more and have nothing to show for it because its all on tax cuts and corporate welfare..

i agree, but as it happens we elect others into the state to manage our money
some do a good job, others not so much
