well, its not so hard being more liberal than a certain user here
and even if you wont believe me due to my stance on certain topics (for me liberal does not mean you have to discuss basic values and tolerate everything), i consider myself to be liberal on quite a few subjects

yeah, by american standards, I'm a liberal or at least a moderate on economic and social issues, just not on cultural issues and immigration.

also nice to see an american/foreign source confirm the huge left-swing of Angela Merkel's CDU, and they actually moved significantly more to the left since 2013...
it's also nice to see a confirmation of the feeling I had over the years that the Democrats have turned to the left quite hard under Obama...

The Obama shift is quite impressive ^^

it's kinda sad to see how close the democrats and republicans were positioned in 2008, and how much the country got polarized under obama.
although I wouldnt just blame obama for this, the conservative side greatly contributed to the polarization and the 'poisoning' of political discussions.

It's been there for a long time, the result of a two party system. You'll always need a president that is able to unite a divided country.

lets be honest here: both obama and trump are already polarizing by who they are. even if they made perfectly reasonable politics, half the population would hate them. once such polarizing figures emerge as presidents, the polarization cant be stopped anymore.

I actually think Obama was the best person to be president for the past 8 years, there was no-one coming close to his capabilities. I have criticism for Obama, mainly on (what Scaly has also said) war drone usage around the world. Yet he was working hard to unite the country. I can't say that's happening right now.

Obama did a lot of reasonable things, but also a lot of stupid things. In particular, he was pushing the country into a direction half the population rejected. His rhetoric was uniting, but his actions were not.

It has been said many times, but it's still true: part of the reason trump won is a backlash to obamas policies by conservative and/or rural voters. Clinton was seen as the preserver of the status quo, or as "status quo on steroids". voters rejected this status quo, and it was Obama's status quo.
