The 17th fundamentally went against the intended compromise republic/democracy of the founders. Not that its necessarily a good or bad thing, but by all accounts the senate was intended to represent the states rights, whereas the house is meant as a more direct democratic representative of the commoners. The more levels of local power being abstracted via council and less put to direct proportionate vote in the senate, the more direct in the house.

Huckabee isn't breaking new ground by calling for a 17th repeal, but to 99% of americans its a big 'u w0t'. The tea party has advocated it for a long time
And as pointed out, the 17th gets really hairy when it comes to appointing replacements, so each state has its own method, which violates the direct vote again. If McCain kicks it or steps down, he gets replaced by his governor but has to be of the same party (and then McConnell has his 50 votes)

The 17th came to pass, because of corruption.

Allowing the states legislature to elect state Senators didn't work they way it was intended.

Requiring state Senators to be elected by popular vote, prevented the "good old boys network" problem that was occurring.

President Donald Trump says he is moving Homeland Security Sec. Gen. John Kelly to become his new chief of staff.

Hopefully this works better

I'm seriously so sick of hearing about Trump already; he's a fringe candidate who stands no chance at getting the nomination. He's this year's Ron Paul (gets tons of attention on the internet but loses by a landslide).

Clinton would win in an electoral landslide. I know people like to have fun discussing fringe candidates but anyone who would attempt to argue otherwise is clearly clueless regarding national and state politics. Clinton would receive at least 347 EVs, and could theoretically push into the 370s-380s if she was fortunate enough to have 6-8 months of campaigning against Trump as the Republican standard-bearer.

The amusing thing is that Trump's electoral viability is little different than most of the other Republicans running. Bush, Walker, Rubio, and Kasich are all capable of forcing a tight election and even winning in certain environments but most of the other primary candidates would fare as poorly as Trump would.
