San Fran's reparations committee proposes $5 million to each Black longtime resident, total debt forgiveness
San Francisco's reparations committee also proposes supplementing lower-income recipients’ income for 250 years

San Francisco’s reparations committee has proposed paying each Black longtime resident $5 million and granting total debt forgiveness due to the decades of "systematic repression" faced by the local Black community.

The San Francisco African American Reparations Advisory Committee, which advises the city on developing a plan for reparations for Black residents, released its draft report last month to address reparations – not for slavery, since California was not technically a slave state, but "to address the public policies explicitly created to subjugate Black people in San Francisco by upholding and expanding the intent and legacy of chattel slavery."

"While neither San Francisco, nor California, formally adopted the institution of chattel slavery, the tenets of segregation, white supremacy and systematic repression and exclusion of Black people were codified through legal and extralegal actions, social codes, and judicial enforcement," the draft states.

The draft plan includes a long list of financial recommendations for Black San Francisco residents, including a one-time, lump sum payment of $5 million to each eligible individual,

it should come out of the democrat coffers since their the only assholes that had slaves.

No one actually believes this right? It's coming from Fox... surely they don't have a bias and trying to create a culture war no one asked for.

This thing, if passed, would actually be a great thing. I imagine all the black people throughout the rest of the nation would want to flock to San Fran to receive this handsome sum. This means no more black people in other parts of US! Imagine that.

for the racial wealth gap today, exactly. blatant systemic racism created it. maybe educate yourself if you don't want to remain an ignorant racist:

White people's racism might have played a part, but it's not the only cause. Black people themselves are also to be blamed for the situation a lot of them find themselves in.

I worked as a sheet metal apprentice which was essentially the same thing. It paid $15 per hour in 2008, today the same construction company pays about $18 for the same role. In short, I think you’re full of shit

Here in the Albertan oil sands, back when they were booming, they hired a lot of people for jobs that weren't directly related, positions like cooks (to cook meals for the actual workers), building maintenance workers, administrative staff and the like, and they were all paid much better than similar jobs in non-oil related areas. It's sort of a, "rising tide lifts all boats" thing. They were making huge amounts of money so they paid everybody much better wages. They had to do this to attract workers because the oil sands were bleak places with no entertainment and very few amenities.

wrong. unlike you i know the difference between anecdotes and relevant data.

YOU can't produce a single scientific source to support your obviously bullshit claim that systemic racism has no impact on today's racial wealth gap - that's why you keep hard dodging me, you racist little hack.

meanwhile in reality:

You need to first define systemic racism and then prove it exists.

It seems that many decades ago, racism truly was embedded in many institutions. But such is not the case anymore. In fact the US now has many laws and practices that specifically favor black Americans over white Americans. I get it, there are still some white people who hold prejudice against black people, and some of them are even in prominent positions, however this is not the same as institutional, or systemic racism.
