Imagine going so far down the rabbit hole that you end up celebrating the fact that an oppressive, theocratic regime - which is sponsoring terrorists and openly hostile to us and our allies - has clinged to power.

You’re right, Libya scenario much better.

We need to stop thinking along the lines that deposing people that we don’t like automatically brings good guys. A lot of the times it’s objectively better for the normal people living there to have some regime that’s stable vs alternative.

Iran is a bit of a case of its own. The royalty was organically couped away by the people, to install a populist government. Which was then couped away by the West to install a puppet regime. This regime, in turn, was couped away by islamists who got popular support under false premises (for example, there was lots of support for the Iranian Revolution of 1979 among liberal female students who failed to see the looming theocracy).

Your framing is still disingenuous. The recent protests across Iran weren't some astroturfed meddling by the West, there's genuine grassroots opposition to Iran's mullah regime. And considering the strong culture and long history of Iran, as well as their access to decent funding from their oil should the embargos be lifted, there is good reason to assume that Iran wouldn't go the way of Libya.

The primary focus for Iran's hostilities is Israel. Yes, they rail against the US all the time, but that's just words. Our ally against whom they're taking actual, tangible actions is Israel. The mullahs constantly demonize Israel and vow to exterminate them. What kind of hostility has Israel ever shown toward Iran to deserve this vitriol?

On top of that, Iran is engaged in a long-running proxy war against Saudi Arabia for supremacy in the Gulf region. In this context, they're stirring shit up in Iraq (and already did so in the 80s, long before any Western invasion turned things from bad to worse). And also in Yemen. So this notion that Iran is a peaceful force which is only punching back against those who wronged them (i.e. the West), and otherwise coexists peacefully with its neighbors, is patently false.

Israel would have ceased to exist 70 years ago without US support. It will cease to exist within 10 years of the US withdrawing that support, unless another benefactor steps up to replace the US. Iran is very well aware of this. The US is a bigger threat to Iran than Israel by lightyears.

Israel has been running the longest concentration camp in human history. Iran has every justification to be intent on exterminating the closest equivalent to nazi's that currently exists. The shocking thing is how few nations have an issue with Israel not that nations have an issue with Israel.

Saudi Arabia and Iraq and Syria have all been targets of US interference. The proxy war you mention is supported by the US as the US supports Saudi Arabia. The US illegally invaded Iraq and Syria both under false pretenses. The shit Iran stirred up in the 80's was a direct response to Americans stirring shit up. Your bias is incredible.
