He was partially right though. Biden claiming that this will give opportunity to millions of middle class families is true. Him claiming that it will benefit families who "need it the most" is a brazen lie.

At the end of the day, most beneficiaries of student loan forgiveness seem to be people who are held back from a life of relative privilege by their student loan debt, rather than the truly poor. Looks like it will most likely get smacked down in congress and Biden can then claim he kept his promises and blame Congress. Maybe that was his plan all along who knows

Waiting for 18 months before acting on a something he promised to do on day 1 in office, only for it to then get smacked down by a Democrat-controlled Congress... that doesn't strike me as smart political strategy, but what do I know. ;)

I think the calculus is that the bill will be stuck in Congress before the midterms, and Democrats can campaign on "if you want student loan forgiveness, we need your vote to get reliable majorities".

Biden has not delivered on his promise yet. All he did was announce that he will push legislation forward which would keep his promise. Once the student loan forgiveness bill has actually made it through Congress, then and only then will his promise be kept.

On which promises did he deliver so far?

Getting covid under control? Nah, the pandemic lingered on for a full year until a natural mutation which spread around the globe from South Africa turned the virus mild enough that we can largely ignore it.
Unite the country? Nah, even in his inauguration speech, held mere minutes after being sworn in, he massively shat on half the country, implying them to be racist, sexist, backwards deplorables whose viewpoints must be overcome.
Return to normalcy? Nah, covid, inflation, war, tensions with China, Roe v Wade being overturned, the situation at the southern border, inner city crime - all those things plagued America while Biden was president.
