I want to make clear in other countries like Italy for example which I studied for my thesis, there a lot of cases of people with severe mental issues like schizophrenia etc, and there has never been a shooting because in that country you can own a gun only after having a medic certificate.
If you have been hospitalized for mental issues, your doctor knows that because of how the system works (he can see that on his pc through a software)
And he will never give you the paper you need to own a gun.
