I'm saying Covid vaccines were always vaccines under the definition and the "change" wasn't actually a change but a specific clarification about the new technology.
The definition of vaccine is, in the simplest terms "a substance used to stimulate immunity from a disease without having to contract the disease"
This has been the definition of vaccine for the entirety of their existence and the Covid mRNA vaccines absolutely fall under it.
But typically definitions will have points of clarification underneath. So you might have a few bullets that say something like
- An artifical substance used to induce immunity
This doesn't fundamentally change the definition, it just clarifies that vaccines can be artificial.
In the case of the Covid vaccines they added
-An mRNA substance that can induce immunity to a disease by causing transcription of viral proteins in the host
Again, doesn't fundamentally change the definition, but adds a point of clarification.
