Dude, I grew up in the country. I know how to do all of that.

You have to assume I don't because you're obsessed with putting others down so you can feel better.

Well, good job.

I thought the speech was pretty good. He rightly placed a lot of blame on the Afghan government and army, while focusing more on the broad issue of whether to stay or go, and not the way the last number of days were handled.

He offered up some unpersuasive reasons why it has gone so bad, such as the Afghan government not wanting the US to evacuate a bunch of people because it would signal that their own government is basically kaput, or that some Afghans didn't want to leave a month ago.

If the non-interventionists here had any semblance of objectivity, they would have to say they liked most of this speech. Honestly a lot of the talking points were similar to what Trump has said for years about wars like Iraq and Afghanistan.

Listening now

We didn't do nearly enough to build infrastructure and set up a stable government to give the military a reason to fight.

Even twenty years later Afghanistan is country that barely exists because we just didn't do anything to change it. We trained their military, and did very little else. If the Taliban comes in and sets up an actual government with a governing philosophy, that will do more to unite the country and create stability than we ever did.

And that's the unfortunate part. We weren't willing to do anything in Afghanistan that didn't directly benefit military contractors.

we were there to steal their resources instead of giving them to Russia who would have done the same. Why you think they wanted the first dibs on Syrian pipelines?

you guys lost trillions over the two decades there, lost countless of soldiers, destroyed families +88BN$ in arsenal yesterday for nothing, nada , niet. You guys killed countless civilians over there for greed. You guys rooted for your military dropping bombs on civilians/kids/wife which you guys defend here . #EQUALITY

worst part? you guys only give a day in a full year to remember these people who died for no reason but corporate money while you guys celebrate transgenders for a full month.

it's crazy how many people are disconnected from reality and can't think straight.

just the fact you guys blame Afghans when you guys killed their dictator, brought instability, all that for an inside jobs to bring in a police state.

Imagine having nothing to do with that, being Afghan, loving life the BOOM ! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! bombs everywhere for 2 decades, destroyed country only to see America leave without doing anything but robbing them from their resources.

Dont act shocked when you guys get done left and right or invaded in the future.

All i know is that most of us Canadians will watch the show and not lift a finger. Our PM is training Chinese people here and been for years . Same with South America. I think you guys will get a surprised soon enough and i rarely been wrong in the last years with these shit.

Well the first step is being realistic about what you can and can't do. If your strategy is based around moon logic assuming you can do the impossible, you're going to fail at doing it.
The solution was to acknowledge that the Taliban was going to take over as soon as we left, and plan accordingly. That meant evacuating people, weapons and armor before it could fall into enemy hands.
Its a fundamental of war strategy as old as time itself, the difference between a retreat and a rout.

There wasn't some magical answer where Afghanistan was left as a western-style democracy where people are represented by a free and fair central government that respects individual liberties and progressive ideals. Flying an LGBTQ rainbow flag over the US embassy during a military occupation doesn't change the fact that Afghans are a bunch of regressive islamic tribal militias who treat women and boys as sex slaves. The best outcome was an organized withdrawal and forming at least basic agreements with the Taliban to ensure a peaceful takeover. We got that 'mostly peaceful' takeover, it seems largely from maneuvering by Russia and Arab powers and the Taliban's temperance, no thanks to US diplomacy / lack thereof. We certainly didn't get the organized withdrawal, we got a full blown rout.

How many troops do you think it would have taken to disarm the ANA and ANP? Once word got out, how quickly do you think they'd sell those items on the black market? Honestly, this is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard lol.

All future Americans. Wonder which spectrum they will vote for!

Oh wait, BIDEN THE SAVIOR!

There's prob a video in the plane that repeat the same 5 sentence over and over

Biden saved us
Biden is great
Biden doesn't poop
Biden created the world, water and food
Biden is God

Meanwhile ,rest of the world understand him pulling out caused this.

If American can fix all that, why narcos still run south America? Trillions worth of drug $

Why you think Americans try to control/work with South America/Middle east?

Biggest heroin/coca producers.

Such a naïve perspective, shows how little you know of the region let alone the world at large. We did all we could to set up a government and that's the whole point of the Taliban not accepting them. They viewed us as invaders, the average Afghani also viewed us as invaders. The reason why the vast majority of of those tribal/regional chiefs gave them the green light because they viewed us as invaders and the government not representing the true will of the Afghani people. Vast majority of these people spit on the change you bring to them, and you keep clinging to platitudes of change failing to grasp that. It doesn't matter that you built schools or a few hospitals what matters is that we were outsiders and what we brought to them was incongruent with Islamic fundamentalism.

I suggest people watch this, it's actually pretty interesting to see what they say.

Exactly, Americans are so disconnected . How the fuck do these Americans think invading a country, dropping bombs and killing tons of their kids, families, civilians, killing their leaders to bring in our banking institution, take their resources and be like OH AMERICA WE LOVE YOU.

They hate our guts, you'll see many more REAL terrorist attack now thanks to America.

You are right, people are naive and disconnected and can't even think straight.

It's damn scary that these people have jobs and vote.

You can be sure if someone invade Canada, ima use all my tools are kill as many as i can before i run out of ammos or i get killed.

We were invaders lol. We killed far more civilians than fighters even by the official counts that are incredibly loose with the classifications. We actively terrorized communities. We dropped tens of thousands of bombs.

We built of a government full of corruption and with nothing to protect.

If we had been willing to actually build the nation instead of just build our defense contractors profits I'd be fine staying to build the country, but we fundamentally weren't interested in that.
