The Republicans don't have the necessary skills to govern effectively. They only know how to be a minority party.

Obamacare also came down to the Supreme Court in the end, with that big 2012 case where Roberts broke ranks to save it.

He didn't save Obamacare, he reaffirmed Congress's right to regulate interstate commerce.

You guys can be such cave men sometimes.

Side note, Dems need to confirm Trump's pick before the election to have a chance to win the election. A SCOTUS seat cannot be on the line in November for them. Even if it is an overly emotional theocrat like he is promoting. The first Judge Karen presiding.

She said she will govern by her faith. That is terrifying to me, the pathos people in charge always worry me as an ethos and logos guy. But last election Americans said the number one issue to them was....dun dun dun...SCOTUS picks. It is a losing battle for Dems. When someone says they govern by faith it tells me they value intuition and imagination more than details, concrete facts, and nuance.

And you were commenting on the case. I don't think I've ever commented on the German Supreme Court cases. Not my fault that German politics is boring and American politics is actual Game of Thrones

You have the current leader of the free world now, so that is good enough, right?

I agree with your take on ACB, I'm not particularly fond of religious zealots like hers. I dont like activist judges of any kind, including conservative ones. I still disagree with the notion that the battle for the court is a huge losing issue for Dems that makes it impossible for them to win this election, an election whose fundamentals are otherwise very favorable to them.

Too true, lol. It's like a blend between GoT and House of Cards, including all the backstabbing and scheming. .

Merkel is a lame duck who can barely hold on to her domestic power, let alone lead internationally. At the end of the day, Germany is too small to lead the "free world", particularly considering our atrophied military and our reluctance to deploy even the smallest amounts of troops abroad. Well... given our history, I actually think the rest of the world is perfectly fine with that.

Is this a reference to the Kingdom of God quote? I feel like non-Christians don't understand what that means.

I bet i know the philosophy of Augustine of Hippo better than most Christians but haven't heard her quote involving it. I might respect her more if she does philosophy, but real philosophy doesn't allow much room for leaps out of reason and into faith, as Kierkegaard describes.

Augustine of Hippo's philosophy lead to the great theocratic experiment known now as The Dark Ages, by leading people to attempt to enact the city of god within the city of man.

Late antiquity is one long tale of fatalism, degeneracy, and sophism. Augustine was living at a time where the world was literally and figuratively coming down around him. Christianity was the light at the end of the tunnel and the salvation of Europe.
