They have lost touch with ordinary working-class people, and they still dont know, or refuse to acknowledge, why that happened. Instead, it's "smear campaigns", "we didnt go left enough", "they're all a bunch of bigoted racists and hillbillies", "they're too uneducated to understand that our plans are better for them", "our policy is great, we just have to do a better job explaining it to the voters" (that one is the favorite of Germany's social democrats, which are polling at around 12-13% nationally) , and last but not least "Russian intereference!!!111".
