be pretty significant to a lot of people

not exactly. Kim signally they'll accept US security promises is massive. mainly because it's inexplicable to the North Korean people who are propagandized to think that this means the end of days (US on their soil, flashes of Lybia etc)

I'm going to call it now, Kim will tell his people that "Trump succeeded in wrestling the country from the Imperialists and they are now here to save us." He has to explain a fundamental shift in america for this to even make sense to his people.



One note on that there were recovery efforts in NK until 2006. when they halted due to nuclear tests and the country signalling they were going rogue. just for people who think this is the first time since 1952 or so that we've been allowed in to recover bodies.

The labour camps is what I was interested in. It's a blight on humanity in the current time period and it would have been nice for their conditions to improve but that probably won't happen until kims family goes.

maybe, the camps aren't inherently malicious (i know that sounds fucked up), they're just a mechanism of control over the people. remove the need for control and the camps go bye bye.

you only need to severely control starving people, especially when they could be funded to coup by another country like we do in the middle east all the time. but if u have the backing of a big country, and your people aren't starving as much, you could close them or make them more humanitarian. one big hurdle is the idea of familial punishment, the way it works now if your brother commits a crime your extended family is all imprisoned as well. if he kills himself you're still responsible for his quota in prison. etc. this is the glue that held the orwellian fabric together for decades.
