This shooting occurred not even 5 miles away from where I currently work. I have never seen so many police cars and first responder vehicles in my life. They all zoomed past me on my morning commute.
Absolutely devastating news for this community. We are still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, and now the people of this region have to cope with another tragedy.
Despite hitting so close to home, I feel a disturbing sense of normalcy surrounding school shootings. I feel desensitized to it now. The news, the aftermath, the political discussion. I feel like I’ve lived it all a million times now, and I know a lot of others feel the same way.
I hope we can find solutions to saving people’s lives, and I have seen some good ideas, but my gut feeling on this is our country is experiencing some sort of vast and complicated cultural decline that's both contributing to the issue and preventing us from making steps to address it.
Omg!
