There's something truly symbolic about a middle east conflict where the point of contention is people already dead, with no tangible stakes for the living, only religious and political umbrage.

There is an agreement
Hamas agreed to return the bodies. When a kidnapper buries his victims and then blames the storm for hiding the graves, you don’t call it an accident, you call it a crime. Israel’s demand is not vengeance, it’s the last act of dignity for those stolen lives.

There 100% should be consequences for not fulfilling the agreement.

What was the punishment for the israeli soldiers who murdered in cold blood an ambulance full of medics and health personal, then burried the evidence and lied about it? What was the consequences - nothing?

a minor point. what people outside of Israel need to understand that we are dealing with a completely different culture. its a different language, a different history, a different world view.

Make Hamas work harder to find bodies, says wife of deceased hostage

Throughout the morning, we've been reporting on Hamas announcing it had returned all the remains of hostages it can access - and on how the families of the unaccounted 19 captives have been reacting. Ela Haimi, the wife of deceased hostage Tal, acknowledges that finding his body is going to be "hard and complicated because of the physical situation" - and that some of the remains are "buried down there in a tunnel that may be destroyed". But she tells the BBC World Service’s Newsday programme she believes Hamas doesn't have the same level of "passion" it had when returning living hostages, suggesting this is contributing to the delay in recovering the remaining bodies. "The Israeli government has to do everything that it can to push them... maybe in the humanitarian help - that we need to stop or to close the gates," she says.

You mean People outside the Middle East .
I seriously don’t get it. What did she said wrong ?
They signed an agreement, given all the difficulties etc etc. now they need to provide. Anything else ?

you have encapsulated my point precisely. She said nothing wrong, in the Israeli world view.

This is echoed and reinforced here: https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/article-870662

Shas leader Arye Deri calls to halt deal with Hamas

Shas party leader Arye Deri demanded that Netanyahu immediately halt all parts of the agreement with Hamas, including opening the Rafah border crossing and allowing aid to enter the Gaza Strip, in a Thursday post on X/Twitter. Deri insisted that this should be the case until Hamas "cooperates fully and seriously" in returning the remains of all murdered hostages.

There is no...pausing here...there is no...way...for me to explain this to you (this is a collective term, not you specifically) in such a way for you to accept. If I were to try to explain my world view, you would just get angry. I am not trying to be difficult. To put it another way, the peace deal is built on very unstable foundations, and I dont believe it can hold, indeed its not holding, which is why my comments and expectations have been few of late.
