in christianity there's a long tradition of reenacting biblical events. from christ's birth, to the last supper, to the crucifixion itself. so no issues there ala pictures of the prophet like Islam will jihaad people for.

i think also in general those who are upset are in the vast minority. most people just look and laugh because its france doing france things. they're militantly secular edgelords, who cares is what most think.

Honestly, I had thought Beijing was the best opening ceremony of the Olympics, but I LOVED this years.... I know the crazy outrage over the "Last Supper" stuff, and I didn't exactly hear anything... lol!
