After reading up on the DoD handbook and policy guidelines and current procedures for transgenders, I think I went from 'skeptical of the ban' to 'skeptical of allowing trans'
Thats a whole hell of a lot of red tape and special conditions for 5000 trannies, making them mandatory high maintenance after the bradley manning debacle
Gays in the military was a simple enough affair, just say "they're okay" and they serve like anyone else, didn't bother anyone. Not the case with the transgenders

Also the elephant in the room which is these people are much more likely to be abused/victimized by fellow soldiers causing a lot of embarrassment for the armed forces. Next thing you know the media latches on, next thing you know there's marches in protest, they want reforms, etc. It's a whole lot of potential headaches for not so much benefit.
