Well yeah, because we have a welfare system. Before we had a welfare system, lots of people did starve.

/e Or at least die due to complications, from chronic hunger.

Private charities are more effective than welfare... and cheaper...

Its almost like you dont know what youre talking about.

It's almost like you haven't been around too much. ^^

/e Not all states treat the "down on their luck folks" the same. For that matter not all cities in the same state do. <--- Referring to private and public charities.

/ee All I'm saying is that welfare itself isn't a bad thing. Welfare abuses, are a bad thing.

All welfare is terrible. You steal from other people in order to reward the selfish.

If sideline saints like you actually cared about the poor you would help them yourself.

I donate more to charity in a month than you probably do in a year.

If a poor person dies under a bridge and no ones around, does it make a sound?

Even if they're more effective than welfare, per dollar (which I don't accept), they're still insufficient for the need. No amount of charity from a society will match the sheer power of an that entire society working in unison as it does through the central welfare program.

More virtue-signalling from the right as they try to fuck over the poor.

Surprise surprise.

If one was a true follower of Jesus they would pay their taxes as is their duty, and be thankful that a portion of the taxes goes towards a worthy cause.

Yes there are a number of things you listed that the government made worse/more expensive in various ways, yet the gains extend far beyond something seemingly trivial like a better fridge.

The real cost of comparable food has fallen significantly.
Taxes in the 20th percentile? largely unchanged i would imagine, and are a very low percentage of the overall tax burden.

Healthcare costs are up, but what you actually get is much better too. Medical treatment in the late 80s is a joke compared to now.

The percentage of homes with air conditioning and specifically central air has risen considerably.
PCs and cell phones are a large boon to the poor. Incredible knowledge and entertainment at their fingertips.

Ownership of various amenities and appliances like this are up considerably among the "poor"

Here is obama's economic advisor Jason Furman:

nice quotes!
I like how they want to see services brought by the Internet as a rise of income, just like having less babies is a rise of income. While every poor guy nowadays need to buy a pc and pay for internet monthly in order to compete on the job market.
I'm expecting that with more women working we also have more double earners in households. That's why I like that the quotes are about household incomes, while finding drops of income for individuals due to inflation.. But that's of course incorrectly applied ^
The constant increases in housing prices obviously got totally neglected. Lol

wow man.. You guys have some great professors.

a butchered narrow understanding of history that is irrelevant to the point.
She could have been the devil incarnate and she would not have been off base.
She does not have to be perfect or without any bad policies for the point to have great relevance to guys like knaapie carrying on about inequality.

She's a smug British politician, to scared to compare equality to Scandinavia and the Benelux, their actual neighbors. Using strong words without solid reasoning. I'm sorry, but you have to give me a better speech to impress me ;)

Tbh, some points are correct. My only opposition is that it's so motivated to only show one side of the argument.
