The narrative that unarmed black men are "hunted" or otherwise targeted by police is false. It's fake news. Come join us in the real world.

But this hits on the broader point, no one is allowed to claim a unilateral right to civil violence. We have no neutral arbitrator who can decide what is a "good illegal cause" versus a "bad illegal cause". We have legal and illegal causes that are defined by law.

As a society, we have effectively sanctioned civil violence, and now we're shocked/appalled that other groups are trying to exercise that right.

truth is almost everyone is soft as fuck these days. i had a few people over for a gardening demonstration and one woman had to stop and only observe because even through gloves the dirt under her nails felt too uncomfortable and she couldnt go on, then suggested we add a hand washing station to the community garden. i said, there's a hose, feel free to use it after that kid is done getting a drink.

There was a young white man who was shot dead a few months ago by police. He lived in a high crime neighborhood, someone called the cops reporting a "disturbance", they knocked on his door and boom, dead.

It's hard being poor. And when cops screw up egregiously, they need to be held accountable. But the police are there because crime is there, and the police are on edge because the situations are routinely violent. The police in my town growing up were calm, and the police at my brother's university are calm, because they interact with laid-back white collar kids who smoke weed and never pose the slightest threat of violence. When there hasn't been a murder in decades, and violent crime is nonexistent, of course police are less likely to respond violently, it comes with the territory. We need to focus on making these communities safer places to live.
