The biggest surprise for me about this whole ordeal is not how evil and hate-filled Hamas is(that's runner up, I had no idea the extent of their evil), but rather how potent the antisemitism on the far-left is. My default position is to sort of ignore the far-left idiocy because it's not embraced by the most powerful Democrats, but it's truly shocking how so many leftist groups have basically come out in favor of murdering Jews, whether they be soldiers, civilians, or infants. They express solidarity with Hamas by incorporating hand gliders in their images, a reference to Hamas gliding into an outdoor music concert in Israel to rape, kidnap, and murder people.
I'm seriously glad we have a Democrat as president who put aside the political differences he has with the Israeli president and has, at least so far, been unequivocally supportive of Israel and their response to this terror. We can contrast Biden's response with Trump's despicable(and evil) comments recently about Hezbollah, Netanyahu, and Israel.
can you point to some concrete examples of leftists actually advocating for the murdering of jewish infants and civilians? if true, that's ofc despicable, but it's really hard to believe that it is as widespread and generally accepted as you try to make it sound.
judging from just this thread, for example, it simply isn't true. there hasn't been a single "leftist" who hasn't condemned hamas' actions and labeled them as barbaric attacks on innocent civilians. nor have i seen a single leftist celebrate or even advocate the murder of jewish people here.
on the other hand, you have countless (mostly right wing) pro-israel posters who engaged in pretty clear de-humanising, generalising, and outright racist rhetoric, supporting or even promoting the indiscriminate killing of palestinian people, the collective punishment of millions, up to outright genocide: just read the posts of El1te, SlamFkingDunk, WhiteSouned, Landmine, ampoo... that's what actual bigotry and hatred of a whole ethnicity looks like.
that, and my personal conversations with friends and acquaintances, who were all disgusted by hamas' recent terror attacks, make your accusation of "the left" being generally anti-semitic, sound rather ridiculous to me. maybe it's just so radically different in america? again, i'd need some actual evidence though, because from where i stand it just sounds like the boring old silencing strategy that chomsky debunked so eloquently. criticism of israel's policies and actions is not anti-semitism.
just a little thought experiment: do you actually believe that "the left" wouldn't criticise israel if it were a majority christian or hindu country?
