I am fully aware that the EU is rather newly come.

However, now this is just the gut feelings I've had concerning certain news articles in the recent past.

1. About 2-3 years ago, I saw in the news that my state, Pennsylvania, HAD to accept 2500 muslim refugees. I didn't like the fact that the US govt. decided that PA had to accept 2500 refugees.

2. At about the same time I heard on the news that Belgium was more or less requiring the same thing of the countries in the EU. I didn't think this was a good idea either.

3. Then I read about brexit, and thought to myself... makes sense to me. If I was the UK, I wouldn't want Belgium deciding that I had to take refugees.

Keep in mind that these refugees are not ALL the downtrodden angels they claim to be. Most probably are. But it's the few who aren't that will cause the problems.

All this aside though...IMO, the El;ectoral College is the ONE thing that keeps this country from being a major cluster-fuck....with a lot of nukes.

And hence it got a sensible man in office.. lol nice try though.

AWw.. we are massively over represented !!
is it a calculation between GDP and population?

I suspect it's the population, because here, in europe, a life is equal to another life...

I never said Trump was sensible. However, he still has to deal with both the Judicial and the Legislative branches of the US govt.

Here's the reason the EU needs an Electoral college.....

/e Or something that works pretty much the same.

Basically the rich still rule.

Making it even more stupid of the Brits to leave.

Don't worry. If the EU becomes a political body ruled by the top 3-4 most populous contries, you can always come to the USA.

We got nothing against ....sane folks...immigrating.

i dont understand what you means about brits
but yet theres 2 parameters about what you say on "rich still rule":

- average income of representatives/govs/etc (it's bad if it's too high)
- inequality (gini index, same here it's bad if it's too high)

and i think Euro isnt perfect but WAY BETTER than alot ALOT of countries.

One thing I admire about the EU is that it's gotta be hard to create a single political body made of countries that have more or less been on their own for 1500 years or so.

/e If the EU can pull it off...I think they will have something ...worth keeping.

nvm the Brit post, I had expectations to have more influence in the EU ^ I'm happy to somewhat shamefully find out how equal life is, in the parliament.

The apportionment of seats within the European Parliament to each member state of the European Union is set out by the EU treaties. The apportionment of seats is not proportional to each state's population, nor does it reflect any particular mathematical formula; however, it is stated in the treaties that distribution of seats should be "degressively proportional" to the population of the member states. The process can be compared to the composition of the electoral college used to elect the President of the United States of America in that, pro rata, the smaller state received more places in the electoral college than the more populous states.

Sounds like a good idea to me. :D
