I think it really depends on if Trump wins in 2020. The Ukraine scandal makes me think that he'll lose simply because his margin of victory was already razor thin. If even 10% of SWING voters reached their breaking point, he's done for. Right now, I'd say he has a 55-60% chance of losing. Obviously that could change given the state of the economy, the Democratic nominee, how public testimony goes with impeachment, etc.
Haley, right now, is tied to Trump for better or for worse. If Trump loses in 2020, I imagine that the GOP will want to "clean house" so to speak. People like Pence, Pompeo, Haley, etc. might be politically toxic.
I see your point, but I gotta disagree.
1.: Haley in my opinion jumped ship just in time so that she can wash her hands of responsibility.
2.: The GOP cleaning house if Trump loses in 2020. I dont doubt that the GOP establishment would want to do that, but at the end of the day, the energy within the party's base is still with the 'trumpy' crowds and not with the Romneys or JEB! Bushes.
The second point can of course change if things really go south for Trump during the imeachment hearings, or if he loses in 2020 in a real landslide. But if he narrowly loses in 2020, I dont think that his realignment of the GOP agenda would go anywhere, whether the RNC and the Kochs like it or not. Imho, the future of the Republican party are candidates like Josh Hawley who run on a similar platform as Trump, but are less erratic and divise than him.
