EU medicines agency faces court fight over $660 million rent bill

Europe’s equivalent of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration signed a 25-year lease in 2014 on its premises in London’s Canary Wharf district, but it now argues Brexit amounts to an unforeseen event of “frustration” of the lease - a potential legal get-out.

Property owner Canary Wharf T1 Ltd disagrees and has taken the case to court, asking a judge to enforce the lease. The outstanding bill for the remainder of the lease, including service charges and rates, is some 500 million pounds.

“We feel that the EMA (European Medicines Agency) should continue to comply with their freely negotiated legal obligations,” a spokesman said.

I mean, seems weird to have their agency building in a non-member country so I cant’ say I disagree.

Just weeks after Theresa May barely clings to power gettings the Chequers deal through parliament, Michel Barnier rules it out completely. It was expected though...collecting VAT and excise duties for the EU as a non-EU state has many downsides for them.

Barnier is an expert negotiator and we've been weak so far in the negotiations. We have to make preparations for a no deal Brexit that are robust and deemed as credible by the EU, otherwise they'll call our bluff and we'll cave.

maybe because you anticipated that i would be able to help you figure out the difference between facts and right wing hysteria? again, happy to help.

and because i know that this will trigger you to a point that you won't be able to tell the difference anymore, let me state this in unmistakable terms: that was a disgusting and disgraceful display of violence that no one in their right mind would condone or support. clearly something needs to happen to prevent such incidents from happening again. however, i don't think that your kind's hysteria and bigotry are going to be any help, so maybe calm down a bit and try to be a little more objective and reasonable...
