Ripple effects of this story
Takeaway can be that a lone gunman murdered a prominent conservative
Takeaway can be that liberal radicals are losing jobs for celebrating his death
Takeaway can be that conservatives are organizing the witchhunting and firing of the above radicals
...
but the real takeaway from the latter part of the sequence is- the streak of militancy and violence is so deep in America right now that a significant percentage of liberals glorify violence against conservatives in general, with whatever distribution between true militants willing to kill and be killed, to snide commentators who will say they don't support violence "BUT", down to just the passive tolerance of mainstream democrats who don't themselves support or rationalize violence yet have made no attempt to exorcise its demons from their party.
when someone stabs Salman Rushdie or shoots up Charlie Hebdo, the ripples of political violence showed it only being supported among the islamists and only fringe leftists gave waffling statements about regulating speech instead of protecting it. We didn't see a whole swathe of the electorate post "Death to America" on social media. Charlie Kirk getting murdered feels a bit closer to the caning of sumner, and that's a bad omen
