Handel wins Georgia special election
The Republican won an expensive battle after the House seat became a focus of Democrats nationwide rallying against Trump.
Democrats and the mainstream media (redundant i know) billed this as a "massive referendum" on President Trump and spent tons of money to lose again.
Running an empty suit pajama rent boy that didnt even live there was another genuinely genius move by the "smart party"

[√] winning [ ] not winning
the result of georgia 6 is a big moral win and a medium-sized win objectively for the GOP. the district was trending towards dems, albeit from a high GOP-leaning level. the final margin of the runoff election fits with the prior assumptions about the district and the political environment nationwide: that democrats are leading the generic house ballot by about 5-6% right now, but would need 7-9% to take back the house in 2018. georgia 6 proves that even throwing unusual amounts of money into a district cant net the dems the much-desired victory they are longing for.
the result of south carolina 5, on the other hand, is a big swing towards dems. that race shouldnt have been nearly as close as it was. this proves that right now, the democratic base is more riled up than the republican base, so that low turnout elections are favorable to dems. but on the other hand, midterm turnout is traditonally higher among GOP-leaning demographics.
so in the end, I personally would consider tonights special election results to be slighlty, but not excessively comforting for republicans and their 2018 house prospects.
