Calling yourself a liberal doesn't mean you can't be authoritarian.

Okay if this was a true statement, then surely Google would tell me about famous liberal authoritarians right? I mean Google has a copy of the entire internet for crying out loud...

Lets try this...

Zero... Apparently there are zero famous liberal authoritarians.

All I get is content about authoritarianism AND HOW ILLEBERAL IT IS... ILLEBERAL MEANS THE OPPOSITE OF LIBERAL... WOW...

Quote (cambovenzi @ 6 Jan 2023 17:14)
We went over this the other day. Liberals have abandoned classical liberal values.

That is a partly true statement because the modern democratic party is comprised of progressives and other types of SOCIAL LIBERALS... SOCIAL LIBERALISM IS NOT THE SAME THING AS CLASSICAL LIBERALISM...

I know this is going to blow your mind here, but REPUBLICANS ALSO SUPPORT CLASSICAL LIBERALISM... BECAUSE CLASSICAL LIBERALISM IS THE CONCEPT THAT A COUNTRY HAS FREE PEOPLE AND FREE MARKETS...

Quote (cambovenzi @ 6 Jan 2023 17:14)
The modern democratic party is very authoritarian even if they would describe themselves as liberal.

THE LIBERALS ARE NOT ILLIBERAL... OH MY GOD DUDE...

Quote (cambovenzi @ 6 Jan 2023 17:14)
The democrats are not a party of classical liberals.

Sure...

Quote (cambovenzi @ 6 Jan 2023 17:14)
They openly hate and oppose the essence of classical liberalism.

No...

Quote (cambovenzi @ 6 Jan 2023 17:14)
They want a strictly controlled economy and a massive authoritarian government, not free markets and individual liberty.

No...

I'm glad to hear the democrats are the party of individual freedom and free markets and I've been mistaken this whole time. What a great day it is.

Dude. Naming yourself something doesn't change the policies that are advocated.
You are having trouble seeing this. Acting incredulous doesn't change it.

I am not at all confused about classical liberalism.
Democrats aren't classical liberals. This is not a contested or outlandish theory.

How about this:

I can't be wrong because I call myself right.
Oh you still think im wrong? But my name is right.
OH MY GOD DUDE! its so obvious! google "being right"

'being in accordance with what is just, good, or proper'
'conforming to facts or truth : CORRECT'

See? I'm correct! It says it right there.

Sure. So what policy has the democratic party offered up that you would consider to be authoritarianism?

Was it paying less for healthcare? Was it handing out money to support covid-19 relief? Which meme tricked you?

They support a society that consists of free markets and free people. Obviously the political party that most closely followers the framework of classical liberalism is typically considered to be the Libertarian party... I know this as fact because ONE TIME I VOTED FOR VERMIN SUPREME...

The problem here is that you are pretending that you or me determines what the words mean and WE DO NOT. I am just repeating the universally accepted definitions of the words (UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED BESIDES YOU OF COURSE...)

I am not contesting the definition of the term classical liberal. I am saying democrats are not classical liberals, even if they call themselves liberals.
Yes someone who calls themself a liberal can be authoritarian or illiberal in the classical sense.

'we just want free healthcare! authoritarianism? pshh no way!'

Do you not see how dishonest this framing is?

Democrat policies are a laundry list of bigger government authoritarianism and government control.
Ban guns. Ban fossil fuels. Ban school choice. Extreme government regulation of the economy. Even higher taxes.

'we just wanted to give away free money for covid relief!'
where did that money come from? It was stolen.
A pittance was given back to the average American while the vast majority went to special interests and big businesses.
Forced wealth redistribution schemes and corporate welfare are not the free market.

Its not surprising you didn't mention the rest of covid policies. Literally shutting down most of the economy by government decree and in many cases trying to ban people from going out anywhere.
Lets all tune in to see what our governor allows us to do today. Because thats freedom.

Yes! Thats true. Compare platforms. Are they even remotely similar with the democrats? No.

If you want a party that supports individual liberty and free markets its the Libertarian Party, not the Democrats.

Here we go...

Secrets of the universe revealed here...

We've got a whiner who wants to blame bipartisan policies signed by Donald J. Trump on their political enemies.

I'm sorry that you didn't get the handout that you feel that you were entitled to.
