A majority of the country (i.e. most people in the center and on the right) believe mass media is so biased that they can't trust it. Now, it's possible that the majority is as you described, just so far down the rabbit-hole that they can't get out. But that seems really unlikely, because the same majority that believes the media is biased isn't voting straight-ticket for the Republican party. To the contrary, they're performing a cost-benefit analysis, and allocating their vote based on what they think is correct, irrespective of the bias they perceive in the media. If you believe that mass media is unbiased, and merely "following the evidence", you're a conspiracy theorist.
