WE DO NOT HAVE A FEASIBLE REPLACEMENT YET, why are people struggling so much to wrap their head around this fact? I've been saying for 10 years now that the liberal/leftist approach of fighting climate change with sacrifice and restrictions is doomed. Fact of the matter is that we cannot do without the "dinosaur juice" without losing a huge chunk of our wealth and standard of living. Liberals and Greens have been selling people the lie that all they had to do was buy a Tesla, eat little less avocados and the problem would be solved. All those years, they were selling a lifestyle and a clean conscience, not actual, technological solutions. The current energy crunch and inflation spiral felt around the globe is their reckoning, the moment when the masses (slowly) realize how big the necessary sacrifice for implementing the green agenda would actually be.

Essentially, the writing is already on the wall: there will either be a breakthrough on fusion within the next 10 years, or humanity will have to tackle global warming via geo-engineering. "Decarbonizing" entire industries and societies will not work at the required scale in the required timeframe and sooner or later, all the governments will have to acknowledge this and give up on the pipedream - or end up like Sri Lanka.

adaptation is definitely outstripping mitigation, and besides, we're not even close to the tipping point of population decline and arable land loss, not with so much untapped in siberia and canada. All the combined effects of overpopulation are squeezing the world, climate change is a pretty small facet compared to the other environmental impacts like biodiversity loss. Looking historically, the world's had its share of radicals who want to change the world order to structure a society around some great issue that becomes largely defunct with future technological adaptation. Third reich thought it would last 1000 years, but 100 years later gene editing could invalidate all eugenics.
