Haven't been here in a couple weeks, so I'm going to hijack this thread to ask a question.

Are you guys proud to be American?

I don't mean grateful that you live in a country like America, but specifically, proud to be American. If so, or if not, why? I've been thinking about this lately.

I am, but it's not simple.
Think of a sine wave. I'm proud to be the sine wave, but I realize it has it's ups and downs.
The trick ofc is to always remember that America is the sine wave... not only an up or down part of the sine wave.

Generally, I think America is headed in the right direction. Right now though, we're in a less than ideal phase. But the direction is still good.

If you want to get "Constitutional" about it... I think this is how this country was designed by the forefathers.
They realized that any "system" would waver, like a sine wave. So they tried to come up with an overall plan that would allow and account for this, yet not break apart.

world is a chitty place
who takes into account what the fore fathers had to work with. they want to judge USA by their ideals but have any of them really done anything but judge? i would say I am more proud of america than proud of being american. people sacrificed much to become free of england and they sacrificed much to free the slaves. its been a slow scratch toward a more perfect union. some people hate the place because they say it wasnt fast enough. but they dont go anywhere else to live because that would really be some chit ........

by a persons ideals the world suks and so does USA

by world standards USA is a beacon of light and thats why people are clogging the boarder.

a person was asked once why he wanted to move to the USA? his reply, the USA is the only place in the world where poor people can get fat.
