Lefties have been using science when it is convenient and fits into their agenda/narrative, not to drive decisions from raw science/data. That is the shift that has happened in the last 20 years. When science is not convenient for modern lefties, or the data does not align with the speculated outcome, it is quickly discounted as pseud-science or alternative science.
I mean sure that's true in a realistic sense that it happens, but arent academics and scientists overwhelmingly leftist? so cant we control that trend to also say ALL progress is pushed overwhelmingly by leftists?

How many forbidden sciences are we up to? GMO foods, nuclear energy, intelligence statistics, criminology, basic biology, climate change adaptation, even pushback against neonatal incubators. Etc etc. After WW2, we recruited ex-nazis to build our rocket program. After third wave neofeminism, we end the careers of accomplished neurophysicists if they make an offcolor joke about the interns.
/e and economics / history.
social science indeed has poisoned many of the sciences, its the HR effect on science. social sciences are trying to play intrasciences police on the behavior of others. but the sciences themselves are tainted largely on the fringe, we're still fairly sound in each discipline. papers like "how white masculinity has altered 20th century biological discovery of insect species in africa" are thinkpieces, they dont change the underlying practices nearly as much as the eyerolls they cause from right wingers.
even take the whole "fat is beautiful" movement, has it really changed culture in any meaningful way? have antibullying initiatives given us a kinder crop of children? has the societal percentage of chubby chasers risen in congruence with Tesla stock? i think not. its a façade.
