This wording was from the scientific standpoint of a virus and a vaccine. So you don't have to call it precious, it's just critical thinking.
Rolling out a political policy in response to the science is the next logical step to me. Back to what I was saying: gov't interest is in sustaining a population - you're worth more dead than alive. This goes for anything science related being tied to political interests: vaccines, climate change, stem cell research, whatever.
So no, I don't agree with the latter part of your sentence of coming to people and politics.
Would you agree that scientific data can be used to drive political policy?
