I think you'd derive some perverse sense of pleasure from having these conversations with children. Parents don't want people who think this is appropriate near their children.

That hasn't been my experience at all. Most parents, although initially suspicious/reserved, tend to be very supportive of developmentally appropriate sex-ed for young children. We'd usually focus on developing an understanding of consent (in a general sense, not explicitly sexual), talking about body parts, privacy, and to instill in young children a sense of confidence and safety that they can talk to a trusted adult if/when something untoward comes up.

Interestingly enough, most parents (in my experience) actually are most-concerned with abortion. I've held several parent meetings prior to the sex-ed classes, and overwhelmingly the thing parents were most-concerned about would always end up being whether 1) we would talk about abortion, and if so, 2) what it is we'd have to say about abortion.

How'd you of all people get 10%?

That aside i think we have a very different view on things. I do not see that video as appropriate for first graders and neither did the parents in the article. Have you presented this video yourself before to parents and received support for it?

I tagged njaguar in a post like 2 months ago trolling that the thread was about pedophilia and that he was needed so he could come email everyone's boss--for the sake of consistency, of course. Got a warn + 30 day suspension.

To your question though: I think it's important to clarify that some parents took issue with the video, and not all. I would not ever show a video in class that has not been presented to the parents first, at least in terms of giving them an opportunity to watch it themselves and to address any questions or concerns that they have. I don't think the video in question is necessarily inappropriate per se, especially since parents (if the process is done properly) have the ability to consent to or opt their child out of the lesson.
