Lol. Kids will be kids. Not my fault your morality is inconsistent.

How is his morality inconsistent in this context?

The fact that any of you responded by saying "religious opposition to stem cell research is based on ignorance" is absurd.

Fair enough.

What if the foetus wasn't viable to begin with? OK to harvest cells then?

For instance, in Belgium there is presumed consent for organ donation. Meaning that if you die, it is assumed that you did not object to having your organs used for transplants if you did not register as NOT wanting to be an organdonor.

So let's say a foetus is doomed to perish, would you object to it's cells being harvested?

In America, we have an opt-in program instead of an opt-out. I agree with the Belgian stance that it should be opt-out because it'd probably save more lives.

Anyway, I'm a pragmatic person for the most part and I think it should be MANDATORY for aborted fetuses to be used for stem cell research. Until abortion is completely illegal, there's no reason why they should be wasted.

From my understanding, stem cell research is not done on aborted fetuses, but on in vitro blastocysts.

Which is very wrong in my opinion. I'm not involved with the science so I'm not sure of the details, but I'm pretty sure that fetal cells can be useful.

I respect your opinion, just saying that it's a misconception that embryonic stem cell research is done on aborted fetuses. Research is done preimplantation.

The reason organ donation after death is not mandatory is simple fear that this gift of life can and will be misused.
Is this fear real or just misunderstood? No its pretty real.
Say you're in a car crash. Your like clinging to Life. You're taken to the Hospital. Doctors put your odds of survival at 10%.
Now are you going to receive 100% of the care and medical help in order to fully recover when the Hospital can make huge money
if you were to pass away?

The same fear unfairly hinders stem cell research. Can it be misused? Sure. But we should stop throwing stuff away that can help us.

In the end it is simply pragmatism.

Pragmatism isn't pretty if followed to the conclusions.

We're all pragmatists, especially America given that we created the tradition. But there are some downs.

The pragmatics were the ones who finally declared there was no truth, and a world with no truths is still not something we've adjusted it to.

Agreed... Maybe I should have said 'It's only practical' then. just sounded a bit cliché :P
