You know what the best part of the gay marriage debate is?

It's the legal and constitutional arguments the social conservatives pull out of their ass to gain some 'legitimacy'.  Especially when in all other aspects, they don't seem to give two shits, or you see them bending over backwards to have the constitution fit their needs.

It's fucking pathetic, and a complete non-issue.  It's nothing more than a distraction from more important issues.  Am I the only other person who feels that the gay marriage debate is freaking retarded?  Can we move on?  Can we grow up? The sooner the right can cede all these fucking no-brainer social issues the sooner we can stop the left from raping us fiscally.  And really, at the end of the day, you and society are so much worse off because you have to pay more taxes for welfare programs than because your neighbors like poking each other in the poop-schute.

The sooner libertarians stop being douchebags and support the right on social issues, the sooner we can stop the left raping us fiscally.

Oh shit.

They should remove any financial incentives or other benefits for getting married and having a family in the first place.

Our country is so fucked to believe gay marriage and abortion are two of the most important issues.

Only if the states allow it. Should not be a national issue.

Honestly could give a fuck at this point if gays want to get married anyways... it's them who will burn in hell, not me.

This argument is so fucking stupid. It's as simple as this. Government shouldn't force the Church to allow gay marriage but a gay couple should be able to be recognized by the state ie. by a judge, ship captain, etc. There are benefits from the state that you get when you're married regardless of who married you and so it is unconstitutional for them not to be able to receive those benefits because of sexual orientation.

Edit: What people fail to recognize is that marriage is not strictly a religious thing anymore and there for the nonreligious part of it should be controlled by the state.

Why not remove marriage from being a state-controlled thing completely? It'd be much simpler to just end any benefits for marriage or any form of it.

My answer is no. Not because i really care or anything...its just that I find it entertaining as hell to see a bunch of pissed off fags on the news marching up and down the street in protest. I look at the bigger picture...be it the entertainment value.

100% agree, it'll never happen though. There'll be a bunch of bitching about other religiously inspired regulation and it'll create quite a lot of work for a lot of VERY lazy politicians.

Nobody has addressed the fact that a gay man and a straight man both possess the very same positive rights, the straight man (should he marry) just chooses to exercise his.
