Republicans have already leveraged gerry mandering for over 50 years and we are seeing time and time again especially in the latest exlection cycle that many of these gerry mandered distrcits are being forcefully redrawn. alabama, mississippi, and New York just come to the top of my head as having hog distrcits that likely won't be after the next election due to recent changes to these districts.
Since the hogs have leveraged gerry mandering so much that is their real tactic before but that is failing now there is simply so many left leaning sane people that hogs are getting cucked hard and losing elections.

The point is this switch to fascism was always inevitable because they are terrible humans and can't win democratically anymore so they just want to get rid of democracy and put poor people in chains. Was 45th the reason for it? I really don't think so, they knew it would come to this. I do think 45th mannerisms that were adopted definitely accelerated the process.
