looks like these fat activists body positive folks will turn on their own if any one of them attempts to lose weight intentionally

Some fat activists are rejecting those who try to lose weight, says a New York academic.

In a keynote presentation at a Massey University conference, Katie LeBesco said the edict against weight loss was a fascinating contrast with the attitudes toward bodily modifications in the trans community.

LeBesco said as she studied the fat acceptance movement's shift towards the mainstream she noticed a tension around weight loss.

"It tends to be a difficult conversation for fat activists. Many of them get out and walk out of the room if intentional weight loss comes up."

That tension only increased as more body-positive images, such as Dove's Real Women have Curves ad campaign, appeared in the media.

She said she'd hoped to examine what was behind that tension by comparing the two groups' approaches.

Whereas some fat activists believed people needed to be satisfied with their body the way it was, trans people often required a physical change to fit their identity.

Walking out of a room because you don't want to be part of a conversation? How could they turn on each other so viciously?

if weight loss discussions trigger you you've clearly got issues - i thought this whole body positive thing was supposed to be about accepting body's of all shapes and sizes though it seems your people don't approve of folks trying to better themselves

Probably so?

Shame you didn't say that instead of trying to create some narrative where walking out of the room is a vicious attack. :( When you have to tell obvious lies like that, it makes it pretty obvious you have issues, too. :(

Weight loss reminded them of food, so they left to go raid the reception of the candy dish (read bowl, pail, or 10 gal bucket) . Food is an incredible motivator for these folks, might even replace the greyhounds at the track with some of these top tier tubbies.

Lol, oh, of course. You weren't just blinded by your blatantly obvious issues with fatties, it was just an intentional exaggeration because uh... beeecaaauuuse....

The act of overeating to the point of obesity in a world where poor people are starving makes obesity immoral considering that the morbidly obese are eating excess quantities of food that would otherwise be going to those that are starving. It isn't hard to see that this addiction to food can drive these people further down the path of immorality. As expected there is a well established body of anecdotal evidence about the lengths that our obese friends will go to in order to acquire and consume food that does not belong to them.
